100 Years Rehersal Process

We began the 100 year rehearsals by being split into three different groups; The Wives , The Soldiers and The couples. These groups where chosen based on our physical theatre performances. I was put in the Wives group, I am feeling extremely positive and am looking forward to creating our performance section in this group as everyone has a really good friendly relationship and will be able work well creatively.

we started our devising process by reading through various different letters, from wives to there husbands away at war or husbands letters home. We decided at the very start of the process the letters would be an important part of our section. We broke off into groups and read letter we then each selected a line we particularly liked, we took it in turns to read out our lines and luckily they ended up sounding like a letter without organising them, we remembered the order and continued to repeat it make sure everyone remembered there order.

One particular section I found most difficult was learning how to Waltz, we had a dance lesion with one of the dance teachers, I found her very helpful in showing us the moves otherwise I would of been completely lost we all found it challenging at first, some more than others, but with practise we all seemed to improve quickly, we are talking about the possibly of Waltzing with empty jackets I think this will be particularly moving and will create a beautiful image on stage for the audience to watch.

After not rehearsing for a few weeks when we put it all together as a year group we are finding It particularly challenging the year group struggled to remain concentrated for the whole period of time, watching the other groups work  was helpful in seeing the amount of material we had created overall, there was allot more than I had imagined and although rehearsal time is minimal I am looking forward to seeing how it will develop and what transitions we can create from section to section.


The dress rehearsals for this performance have been rushed, I am nervous about how the final performance will be as every member of the year group aren't 100% focused I think after these rehearsals though everyone has realised we have allot of material and how important the topic is and how we have to give the performance and the story the respect it deserves.
